The venue is divided into zones modeled on Shibuya and Akihabara, and it sells food and experiences as well as merchandise. For companies handling Japanese character merchandise or Japanese food, it is a place to see visitor reactions on the spot.

Basic information

Event name

Ōta TOKYO (AUTHENTIC TOKYO POP CULTURE FEST)

Next edition

November 28-29, 2026, Yashobhoomi in Delhi (India International Convention & Expo Centre, Dwarka Sector 25). The official website describes "six towns" and lists five areas: Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, Shin-Okubo, and Kyoto (as of September 2026). For the Delhi edition, VTuber appearances, a Beyblade tournament, yukata try-ons, a maid café, and more than 30 Japanese food stalls have been announced. It is built so that visitors eat something, wear something, take photos, and go home.

Another feature is that there are two entry routes for exhibitors. Separate from the guidance for companies, the official website carries a booth registration form for doujin creators. As at fairs in Japan, it is designed on the premise that individual artists will set up booths.

What Japanese companies can do here

We exhibited at the Bengaluru edition in January 2026, showing and selling trading cards at the venue. Many visitors photographed or filmed their purchases on the spot and posted them on social media, and exhibiting led to buyer meetings with local card shops and retailers. The details are written up in Ota TOKYO exhibition report.

It is not a place for character merchandise alone. Because there are stall slots for Japanese food, companies handling confectionery or beverages can also see how visitors react. People can pick up the product at a stage when you have no shelf space yet, which suits testing before you build out distribution.

What to check before exhibiting

Booth fees for companies and the application deadline are not published. The dimensions of the space, the conditions for fixtures and power, move-in and move-out times, and payment methods at the venue all need to be confirmed with the organizer. Confirm as well, and first of all, whether you hold the rights to sell in the territory of India. A product for which you hold only Japanese sales rights cannot be sold at the venue.

If you sell goods, you need procedures to bring the products into India. As long as you are selling them for money, the import and labeling requirements must be met regardless of quantity, and packaged goods are required to show the MRP (tax-inclusive maximum retail price). Products that count as toys for children aged 14 and under fall under the Quality Control Order, which requires a BIS license on the manufacturer's side and the corresponding marking.

Decide who will do the selling before you reserve a booth. When a foreign company sells directly to consumers itself, India's foreign investment rules apply even to short, limited test sales. In practice it is common to appoint a local operator to handle import and sales on your behalf, and selling directly yourself means setting up a local entity as single brand retail trading (SBRT). There is also a risk that employees traveling from Japan who take part in selling will be treated as a permanent establishment (PE), so who sells has to be settled at an early stage.

Related Articles

Ota TOKYO exhibition report | Bengaluru, India

Comic Con India | A place to gauge reactions to anime and character IP

Taking anime and character IP into India

Import and licensing | FSSAI, labeling, and landed price

Trade shows in India

Sources

Ōta TOKYO official website

District｜Ōta TOKYO 2026 Delhi

Prime Minister of India | Opening of the airport line extension to Yashobhoomi (Venue location and access)

JETRO | Foreign investment regulations and licensing for entering India's retail sector (Test sales at trade shows, foreign investment rules, and PE risk)

BIS｜Toys Quality Control Order (Scope of toys for children aged 14 and under)

Ōta TOKYO is an event that brings the format of Japanese doujinshi fairs and cosplay events to India.
