Chai Point is a chain that runs two things at once: a network of outlets selling chai over the counter, and supply to workplaces where brewing machines are installed in offices. The number of workplace sites is close to 20 times the number of outlets.<\/p>\n

Outlets and workplaces run as two tracks<\/h2>\n

As well as selling over the counter, it supplies workplaces on a continuing basis by installing automatic brewing machines in offices. Sales at an outlet depend on its location, but once a workplace is signed up, shipments continue until the contract is cancelled. More than 3,500 sites is close to 20 times the 180 outlets.<\/p>\n

Chai in India can be bought at a street stall from around \u20b910. For a chain to charge more and still make it work, it needs a reason to buy there before it needs a taste. Once the machine is in the workplace, that reason rests on the installation rather than on the location.<\/p>\n

Spending 1.26 rupees for every 1 rupee of operating revenue<\/h2>\n

Total expenses for the fiscal year ended March 2025 were \u20b9274.3 crore, exceeding total income of \u20b9234.7 crore. Set against core operating revenue of \u20b9217.2 crore, that works out to spending 1.26 rupees for every rupee earned. Cost of goods rose 12% to \u20b998 crore. The net loss narrowed 12.5% to \u20b940 crore from \u20b945.7 crore the previous year, but there is still some distance to profitability.<\/p>\n

What needs care when reading the numbers is what the revenue figure contains. The \u20b9234.7 crore includes \u20b917.5 crore of other revenue, and operating revenue from the core business is \u20b9217.2 crore, 93% of total income. Indian company databases sometimes list total income as Revenue, and that may not match the operating revenue given in news reports.<\/p>\n

Recent developments<\/h2>\n

The company has widened its range into instant tea bags, leaf tea, and snacks, adding ways to sell outside its own stores. For Japanese beverage and tea makers, it is a counterpart that already holds a sales route in the form of workplace installations, which makes it easy to build a point of contact by supplying the ingredients loaded into the brewing machines.<\/p>\n
