What it means that sourcing came first<\/h2>\n

Most D2C brands start with product planning and marketing and outsource manufacturing and sourcing. Farmley did the opposite: it first built a sourcing network from producing regions as a B2B wholesaler, then began selling that same raw material to consumers under its own brand.<\/p>\n

Dried fruit and nuts see large swings in raw material prices and are prone to quality variation. A company that controls its own sourcing can buy in when prices drop and route the highest-quality lots to its own brand. A later brand that buys from outside can't make that call.<\/p>\n

Points for Japanese companies<\/h2>\n

India is also a processing and re-export hub for cashews and dates. Raw material is brought in from Africa and the Middle East, shelled and sorted in India, and shipped out to various countries. When sourcing dried fruit or nuts for Japan, one option is to use the processing capability of a domestic brand like this rather than an exporter in the country of origin.<\/p>\n

When approaching the company, the points to check are how finely sorting grades can be specified, whether it can handle small-portion packaging, and whether it can prepare labeling required for Japan (country of origin, allergens).<\/p>\n
