Bringing the back-of-pack label to the front<\/h2>\n

Ingredient lists on food are normally printed small on the back of the bag. The Whole Truth Foods put this in large print on the front instead, listing what's inside, dates, almonds, cacao, and so on, right next to the product name.<\/p>\n

This presentation works only because the ingredients are composed entirely of items short enough to read at a glance. If emulsifiers, flavorings, and preservatives were listed, putting them on the front would backfire. In other words, the package design itself becomes a constraint on the formulation.<\/p>\n

It handles protein bars, peanut butter, chocolate, muesli, and more. Where Indian health food had centered on numeric claims like \"high protein\" and \"low calorie,\" it brought in an axis of choosing based on the actual ingredients.<\/p>\n

Growth of more than threefold<\/h2>\n

Revenue for FY2025 (year ended March 2025) was \u20b9219.8 crore, more than tripling from the prior year. It raised funding in February 2026, bringing cumulative funding to about $83 million. It has about 320 employees.<\/p>\n

This is a large scale for a brand that started D2C, and it has come to appear not just online but in quick commerce and physical stores as well.<\/p>\n

Points for Japanese companies<\/h2>\n

Food labeling in India also has to follow the rules of the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), and what can be described as additive-free is not the same as in Japan. Given how limited the claims on a label can be, the fact that putting the ingredients themselves on the front of the pack works as an approach is a useful pointer for Japanese additive-free brands thinking about how to build their message.<\/p>\n

In Japan, claims like \"no preservatives\" are subject to Consumer Affairs Agency guidelines that constrain how they can be phrased. Showing the actual ingredients is a design that achieves the same effect without trying to get around that constraint.<\/p>\n
