Flipkart-owned fintech app super.money appointed Rohan Khara as Chief Product Officer (CPO) on September 16, 2026. Khara served as CPO at payments startup BharatPe, stepping down in June 2024. Who, when, where — e-commerce giant Flipkart has placed a veteran who has moved across the payments field at the top of its own payments app's product organization. The aim is to expand beyond UPI payments into a financial platform that bundles credit and commerce as well. For Japanese companies launching payments or financial apps in India, this offers a clue for thinking about what to build on top of UPI as an entry point.
This appointment comes after Khara stepped down as CPO of BharatPe in June 2024. According to Entrackr, he has held senior product and financial-services roles for about 20 years at companies including FairMoney, Gojek, and MobiKwik, with experience not only in India but also in Indonesia and Nigeria. His role at super.money is said to be leading product development spanning the three areas of UPI, credit, and commerce. Though this is a personnel move, it goes beyond a mere title announcement in that the specific product domain he will own has also been made clear.
super.money is a fintech backed by Flipkart, built primarily around UPI payments. What the company envisions with this appointment is an experience that links payments straight through to credit and commerce — users earning rewards on every transaction, building credit from their repayment history, and having payment options such as installments available at purchase. One can sense a design philosophy of layering financial services on top of UPI, which is hard to monetize on its own as payments alone.
BharatPe, MobiKwik, FairMoney, and Gojek are all businesses that have handled payments and credit. Experience building products across multiple emerging markets — India, Indonesia, and Nigeria — connects directly to the know-how of building revenue sources on top of a public payments rail like UPI. By bringing in someone who can cross-reference Flipkart's own purchase data as the parent e-commerce company with product knowledge of payments and credit, super.money appears to have entered a phase of hammering out the connection between commerce and finance at the product level.
Entrackr reported this appointment as one made to strengthen super.money's consumer-facing proposition and to develop products spanning UPI, credit, and commerce. It specifically noted that, at the moment a payments app is moving from a single function to a financial platform, the company placed someone with payments experience across multiple countries at the head of product.
India's payments and credit space is thick with existing players, and a new entrant offering a mere payment function is easily buried. The move by fintech majors to solidify their footing through listings and reorganization was covered in Moneyview's IPO filing, and how to layer credit and rewards on top of UPI has become the competitive axis. The pattern of overseas money going after a leading fintech's founder or business wholesale is also visible in Meta's aim behind investing in CRED, and reinforcement of the lineup is advancing on both the product and talent fronts. If a Japanese company partners here, it needs a product design that looks beyond standalone payments to commerce and credit as well.
Payments and e-commerce remain a heavy sector in Indian startup fundraising, and the movement of that capital and talent was organized in Q1 2026 startup fundraising. super.money's appointment of a product chief can also be read as part of this flow of capital and talent gathering around payments and commerce.
Japanese companies considering a payments or financial business in India should choose a partner not for UPI itself but for the layer of credit, rewards, and commerce built on top of it. As a next move, we recommend putting together, on one page, whether an app like super.money that is trying to connect commerce and finance can be matched against your own product and purchase data, laying out the premises for a pilot.
