Varun Madan studied engineering at NSIT Delhi and took an MBA at XLRI, then worked on strategy and M&A at Wipro before starting Salad Days in 2014. After establishing a base in Delhi NCR he expanded to Bengaluru and Mumbai, and in June 2026 opened a first location in Hyderabad as well. As of 2026 there are 50 cloud kitchens: 26 in Delhi NCR, 12 in Bengaluru, 11 in Mumbai, and 1 in Hyderabad.
Revenue for FY2025 (fiscal year ended March 2025) was ₹53.5 crore, up 71.9% from ₹31.1 crore the year before, and net income of ₹1.3 crore put the company in the black. In January 2025 it raised ₹30 crore (about 3.4 million dollars) in its first institutional round, co-led by V3 Ventures and Client Associates Alternates Fund.
Around salads, it offers soups, wraps, bowls and smoothies. It has a three-acre organic farm of its own in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, and draws part of its leafy greens from there. Sourcing leafy greens of a quality safe to eat raw on a steady basis is difficult in India, which led the restaurant side to run its own fields. For a Japanese company considering a fresh-produce business in India, it shows where the procurement barriers lie.
