India's pizza market has grown to about 5.81 billion dollars as of 2025 and is projected to reach about 12.49 billion dollars by 2034 (a CAGR of 8.87%). Among Indian cities, the IT hub of Bengaluru, with its high density of young people and high disposable income, has become the fiercest pizza battleground where pizza brands compete most aggressively to open new stores.
Domino's Pizza's store count across India expanded rapidly, with a net addition of 184 stores in FY2025. It operates 176 stores in Bengaluru alone, achieving high-density store openings centered on tech hubs where IT companies cluster, such as Whitefield, Electronic City, and HSR Layout.
The growth from 567 to 630 stores (a net increase of 63) reflects the operations of Devyani International, the largest franchisee. Because Pizza Hut in India operates under two companies, Devyani International and Sapphire Foods, the nationwide total exceeds this figure. However, the momentum has not held: Devyani opened only 9 new stores in FY2026 and posted a full-year loss of 42.5 crore rupees (1 crore = 10 million rupees). It has frozen new store openings for calendar year 2026. At Sapphire Foods too, Pizza Hut's same-store sales have declined for five consecutive quarters.
In June 2025, the UK craft pizza brand "The Real Pizza Company" opened its first India location in Bengaluru. It serves authentic stone-oven pizza and plans to expand into other metro and Tier 2 cities. Its choice of Bengaluru for its first store underscores the city's role as a launchpad for food trends in India.
In Bengaluru, homegrown craft pizza brands are also gaining momentum. Brands such as Toit, Onesta, and 1522 offer their own wood-fired and artisanal pizzas, winning support from gourmet-minded young people and IT professionals. The wide variety of vegetarian pizza options is also a distinguishing feature of the Bengaluru market.
The factors that put Bengaluru at the forefront of India's pizza market are as follows.
The growth of Bengaluru's pizza market holds the following implications for Japanese food companies.
Backed by its concentration of IT talent, high disposable income, cosmopolitan food culture, and robust delivery infrastructure, Bengaluru has become the front line of India's pizza market. Beyond the major chains Domino's and Pizza Hut, the market is being further energized by the entry of UK craft pizza brands and the rise of local brands. For Japanese companies too, there is ample room for entry, whether through ingredient supply or Japanese-style pizza offerings.
