India is one of the world's major coffee producing countries, yet most domestic consumption has been instant coffee and south Indian filter coffee. Third Wave uses domestic arabica beans and has been one of the players spreading the habit of choosing beans among young urban consumers.
Its outlets are concentrated in malls and office districts, and the seating is designed for people to stay, making the café itself the destination.
Operating revenue for FY2025 (fiscal year ended March 2025) was ₹268.6 crore, up 11% from ₹241.3 crore the year before. In August 2026 it raised ₹408 crore in a round led by WestBridge Capital, taking cumulative funding past 100 million dollars.
As a roaster accustomed to handling Indian arabica, it can also be a counterpart on the raw material side. For a Japanese coffee company handling Indian beans, looking at operators that roast domestically, not only at exporters, makes it easier to align on quality standards.
