Indian online jewelry brand BlueStone Technologies Limited approved its Q4 FY26 (January-March 2026) earnings at a board meeting on April 23, 2026. Revenue (operating revenue) came to INR 681.5 crore (about 12.3 billion yen), up 48% year-on-year, with net profit of INR 31.2 crore (about 560 million yen). Since the same quarter a year earlier saw a net loss of INR 51.3 crore, this marks a major swing to profitability on a quarterly basis. For the full FY26 year as well, operating revenue reached INR 2,441.2 crore (about 44 billion yen, up 38% YoY), with net profit of INR 26 crore (about 470 million yen), marking its first full-year profit.
Q4 total income, including other income of INR 15.1 crore, reached INR 696.7 crore. However, this represents a decline of about 9% from Q3 FY26's INR 748.7 crore, and net profit also fell 55% from Q3's INR 68.9 crore. This seasonality is common in India's jewelry market, since Diwali and the wedding season are concentrated in Q3, causing Q4 sales to drop relatively.
Adjusted EBITDA (excluding non-cash expenses) came to INR 147.4 crore, expanding 3.5 times year-on-year. Excluding INR 27.8 crore in non-cash expenses related to ESOPs and leases, adjusted net profit was INR 64.3 crore, indicating that the underlying earning power is even higher. Total expenses were INR 664 crore, up 24% YoY, well below the revenue growth rate (+48%), showing that economies of scale are starting to take effect.
The biggest headwind BlueStone faced was the surge in gold prices. The price of 24K gold rose about 82% over roughly 15 to 18 months, from INR 78,000 per 10g to INR 142,000 per 10g, and inventory turnover fell from 1.34x in FY25 to 1.13x in FY26. However, this is not due to weak sales but to the value of period-end inventory swelling with the price increase.
The impact on store rollout has been serious. BlueStone's IPO filing in August 2025 planned 290 new store openings across FY26 and FY27, but the actual FY26 result was only 65 stores. CEO Gaurav Singh Kushwaha said, "We need to gauge how demand responds to such a sharp rise in gold prices," showing a cautious stance of confirming demand trends before accelerating store openings.
At the same time, the company has set out a policy of redesigning its entry-level product portfolio. Because the surge in gold prices means that "the entry price point has risen out of reach for first-time jewelry buyers" (the company's words), it aims to expand its lower-priced lineup to bring in new customers.

A securities analyst (based in Mumbai):"BlueStone's full-year FY26 profitability is a historic milestone for India's jewelry D2C sector. Going from an INR 219 crore loss to an INR 26 crore profit, it achieved an improvement of INR 245 crore in just one year. In proving that scale and profitability can coexist, its impact is comparable to Nykaa's turn to profitability."
A representative of an Indian jewelry industry association (paraphrased):"Online jewelry faces a high wall of trust. The fact that BlueStone, an online-first brand with 340 offline locations, has achieved profitability shows that an O2O (online to offline) model can work even in jewelry, where 'touch and feel' is considered essential."
A D2C investor (paraphrased from an X post):"Revenue up 48% even as gold prices rose 82%. This isn't just a macro tailwind — it's a win for BlueStone's product strength and tech stack. The move away from the franchise model is also the right call, prioritizing brand control."
BlueStone's case serves as an important benchmark for Japanese jewelry brands considering the Indian market.
1. Conditions for high-price-point D2C to work: In India there was a conventional belief that "jewelry can't be sold online," but BlueStone broke through this wall by combining technology (3D try-on, AI recommendation engine) with offline stores. Kose's investment in Foxtale Similarly, entry routes into India's D2C market are widening for Japanese brands too.
2. Responding to gold price risk: An 82% rise in gold prices strikes inventory risk directly. If Japanese jewelry companies expand into India, hedging strategy and inventory turnover management are essential. That even BlueStone had to significantly cut its store-opening plan to 65 out of 290 is a factor to weigh when judging entry timing.
3. What moving away from franchising means: BlueStone's declaration that it is moving away from the franchise model shows a stance that prioritizes a unified brand experience above all. Joker & Witch's offline expansion As can also be seen there, the trend of D2C brands running physical stores as company-owned locations is accelerating.
BlueStone's profitability is sending ripples through the market as the "second successful jewelry D2C case" after CaratLane (under Titan, acquired by Tata in 2023). Competitors that remain unlisted, such as Melorra, Candere (under Kalyan Jewellers), and GIVA (which has surpassed INR 150 crore in ARR), also have IPOs in view, and BlueStone's stock price movement (up 1.05% to INR 547.95 the day after earnings) will serve as a benchmark for market valuation.
As long as gold prices remain elevated, the jewelry market as a whole could accelerate its shift toward alternative materials such as lab-grown diamonds (LGD) and silver jewelry. BlueStone's policy of redesigning its entry-level products is consistent with this trend.

BlueStone's Q4 FY26 results clearly show that India's jewelry D2C sector has moved from a "growth phase" to a "profit phase." Results of INR 681.5 crore in revenue (+48%), net profit of INR 31.2 crore, and its first full-year profit (INR 26 crore) are proof that technology-driven D2C can work even for high-price-point products.
Achieving profitability against the headwind of a sharp rise in gold prices (+82%) has, if anything, proven the resilience of BlueStone's business model. The strength of existing stores, shown by SSSG of +34%, is also not to be overlooked.
The next steps Japanese companies should take are as follows.
(1) Research BlueStone's tech stack, such as 3D try-on and its AI recommendation engine, and evaluate the potential to apply it to your own e-commerce
(2) Compare and consider entry formats for the Indian jewelry market (own brand vs. joint venture vs. acquisition) using cases such as CaratLane and Candere
(3) Gather data on Indian consumers' price sensitivity regarding entry-level product strategy (LGD, silver, platinum) amid soaring gold prices
