In 2026, at least six foreign brands will make their first entry into India's retail market: Canadian athleisure brand Lululemon, French natural cosmetics brand Yves Rocher, Italian luxury streetwear label Off-White, UK fast-casual dining chain German Doner Kebab, US lifestyle brand Abercrombie & Fitch, and UAE-based children's entertainment brand "Boo Boo Laand." All of them are partnering with local Indian players and positioning to attack both online and offline. The wave of more than 30 companies entering in 2025 alone is only accelerating further.
Lululemon will sign a franchise agreement with Tata CLiQ in the second half of 2026, rolling out both physical stores and e-commerce on Tata CLiQ Luxury. It plans to introduce apparel, footwear, and accessories for yoga, running, tennis, and golf, along with community events.
Yves Rocher will launch about 100 skincare and hair-care products in June 2026 with Nykaa as its exclusive partner. It will roll out in stages across Nykaa's app, e-commerce site, and roughly 40 stores, targeting 25-to-35-year-olds and positioning "Glow Energie" as its flagship franchise.
Off-White has already opened its first store in April 2026 at Phoenix Mall of Asia in Bengaluru, in partnership with Brand Concepts Ltd. It ultimately plans 5 to 6 flagship stores and 25 to 30 shop-in-shop locations across major malls in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
Abercrombie & Fitch is entering through a multi-year franchise agreement with Myntra Jabong, including the Hollister brand. It is launching both physical stores and e-commerce, starting with Delhi and Mumbai.
More than 30 foreign brands entered India in 2025, roughly doubling the pace of entry compared with pre-pandemic annual averages. There are three structural factors behind this.
First, growing spending power in urban areas. As the middle and upper-middle classes expand, resistance to premium consumption is fading. Second, the maturing of digital infrastructure. Platforms like Tata CLiQ, Myntra, and Nykaa have built the ability to handle a foreign brand's India entry as a single "franchise plus e-commerce" package. Third, the sheer size of the young population. Demand for fitness culture, natural beauty, and streetwear fashion is expanding rapidly as generations turn over.
| Brand | Home country | India-side partner | Format of entry | Start timing | Target audience |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lululemon | Canada | Tata CLiQ | Stores plus e-commerce | Second half of 2026 | Yoga and running enthusiasts (estimated spend per customer ₹8,000-15,000, roughly ¥14,000-26,000) |
| Yves Rocher | France | Nykaa | E-commerce plus roughly 40 stores | June 2026 | Women aged 25-35 interested in natural cosmetics |
| Off-White | Italy | Brand Concepts Ltd. | 5-6 flagship stores plus 25-30 shop-in-shops | April 2026 (first store already open) | People in their 20s and 30s who like luxury streetwear |
| Abercrombie & Fitch | United States | Myntra Jabong | Stores plus e-commerce | From the second half of 2025 | Casual lifestyle consumers |
| German Doner Kebab | United Kingdom | Master franchise | Store | Sometime in 2026 | Fast-casual dining |
| Boo Boo Laand | UAE | Not disclosed | Experiential facility | Sometime in 2026 | Affluent families (Mumbai → Delhi → Bengaluru) |

A figure in India's e-commerce industry points out that "the barrier to entry for foreign brands has fallen sharply now that Tata CLiQ and Nykaa can offer an integrated franchise-plus-e-commerce package." In the past, entry was mainly through a wholly owned subsidiary or an agency agreement, but this third option, a franchise bundled with e-commerce, has boosted India's appeal.
A local consultant analyzes that "the track record of more than 30 companies in 2025 is acting as a catalyst. The sales data from early movers has entered a virtuous cycle, pulling in the companies that follow."
On the consumer side, posts welcoming Lululemon's and Off-White's arrival in India stand out on social media. In particular, Off-White's flagship store in Bengaluru staged a takeover of the entire mall on opening day, generating major buzz.
What all six brands share is "partnering with a local platform operator." Rather than building a store network alone, they're keeping initial investment down by riding on the existing infrastructure of Tata CLiQ, Nykaa, and Myntra. The same structure is available to Japanese consumer goods makers too.
In beauty, for example, Nykaa's distribution network of roughly 40 stores plus e-commerce is well suited to a "test entry." Yves Rocher's entry with about 100 SKUs offers a reference for a strategy that narrows to core categories rather than launching a full lineup.
On the other hand, a high-price brand like Off-White takes the different approach of building out the brand experience around its own flagship stores rather than leading with e-commerce. Companies need to choose between these approaches based on price point and brand awareness.
India's organized retail sector continues to post double-digit growth, and the acceleration of foreign entry brings three ripple effects. First, faster mall development: developers like DLF and Phoenix are competing to secure foreign brands as anchor tenants, driving more new mall projects. Second, investment in logistics and fulfillment: as the hybrid online-offline model becomes the norm, demand for last-mile delivery keeps expanding. Third, a spur to domestic brands. Lenskart's corporate restructuring, domestic players too are rushing to raise capital and strengthen their brands.

In 2026, India is having a year of foreign brand launches spanning every genre, from athleisure and natural cosmetics to luxury streetwear and fast-casual dining. What they all share are two axes: a hybrid rollout of e-commerce plus physical stores, and leveraging local platform operators. Amazon Now's rollout to 100 cities shows, e-commerce infrastructure is being built out rapidly. If a Japanese company is considering entering India's retail market, it makes sense to start selecting a local partner and running a small-scale test at this point.
