The Indian arm of UAE-based retail giant Lulu Group opened a new hypermarket at its Bengaluru commercial complex, Gopalan Grand Mall which officially launched on May 17, 2026. This brings Lulu's hypermarkets within Bengaluru city to 6 stores, and across India as a whole 18 stores, further strengthening its push into South India.
The new store is located on Old Madras Road in eastern Bengaluru (near C V Raman Nagar). It held a soft opening on May 3 before fully opening on May 17.
The new store's floor area is 58,516 square feet (about 5,436 square meters). It has dedicated parking for more than 200 vehicles. Lulu positions this opening as a milestone in its nationwide expansion. Reaching its 6th store in Bengaluru and 18th in India shows the company is working to build out a presence across South India's major cities. To mark the opening, it ran opening-exclusive discounts and promotions across multiple categories from May 17 to 21.
The new store's opening is expected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities in the area. A large hypermarket tends to be welcomed by local governments and mall operators not only for its broad product range but also for its ripple effect on the local economy, which helps smooth store-opening negotiations.
Lulu's concentrated openings in Bengaluru show that, in India's major cities, a single company expanding across multiple stores in one area is a growing pattern. A hypermarket that covers everything from food to household goods under one roof can become a strong sales channel for food manufacturers. For companies looking to get their products into the South Indian market, securing shelf space at an expanding retail chain like this is a practical entry strategy.
