India's major quick-commerce player "Swiggy" (Instamart, its quick-commerce arm) has released consumption trend data for summer 2026. Amid the ongoing heat wave, for mangoes, the Sindhu variety has become the most-ordered variety so far this season, and for ice cream consumption, Bengaluru has taken the top spot. What stands out is that Bengaluru, not Delhi, has become "India's ice cream capital."
Who, what, and why — Swiggy's order data offers a concrete picture of what Indian consumers facing the heat are buying on quick-commerce apps.
Alphonso, the premium variety, is the most famous name in Indian mangoes, but in early summer, before the Alphonso season gets into full swing, the Sindhu variety became the most-ordered variety this season. Which variety moves at the start of the season varies from year to year, and the data shows that Alphonso is not the sole dominant player.
Bengaluru took the top spot in ice cream order volume. The city ranking based on Swiggy's data is as follows.
| Rank | City |
|---|---|
| Rank 1 | Bengaluru |
| No. 2 | Mumbai |
| Rank 3 | Hyderabad |
| No. 4 | Chennai |
| Rank 5 | Pune |
| Rank 6 | Delhi |
| No. 7 | Kolkata |
| No. 8 | Kochi |
| No. 9 | Gurugram |
What stood out in the summer quick-commerce basket was not cold drinks or ice cream but dahi (Indian yogurt). By sales, dahi came close to soft drinks and ice cream and emerged as the most-ordered item. Six of the top 10 ordered items were dairy (curd-based) products, clearly showing a preference for cooling down with traditional fermented milk as a way to beat the heat.
As temperatures rose from March into April, orders for key summer categories surged. Top products grew by as much as 300% week over week, with mangoes, cold coffee, carbonated drinks, and fruit ice bars all jumping together. By time of day, ice cream orders more than doubled between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., peaking at 9 p.m. The data shows how closely consumption tracks the weather and daily rhythms.
This data concretely shows that India's summer sales battle is not "uniform nationwide" but varies significantly by city, time of day, and product. Ice cream demand skews toward Bengaluru over Delhi, and fermented dairy like dahi moves more than cold sweets — realities like these directly affect decisions on product range and target cities for companies entering India with food and beverages. Order data from quick-commerce platforms is a valuable clue for reading seasonal product demand at the regional level.
