Accelerating store network expansion in South India

Lulu positions this opening as a milestone in its nationwide expansion. Reaching its 6th store in Bengaluru and 18th in India shows the company is working to build out a presence across South India's major cities. To mark the opening, it ran opening-exclusive discounts and promotions across multiple categories from May 17 to 21.

A community hub expected to create over 1,000 jobs

The new store's opening is expected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities in the area. A large hypermarket tends to be welcomed by local governments and mall operators not only for its broad product range but also for its ripple effect on the local economy, which helps smooth store-opening negotiations.

What this suggests for Japanese companies considering entry into India

Lulu's concentrated openings in Bengaluru show that, in India's major cities, a single company expanding across multiple stores in one area is a growing pattern. A hypermarket that covers everything from food to household goods under one roof can become a strong sales channel for food manufacturers. For companies looking to get their products into the South Indian market, securing shelf space at an expanding retail chain like this is a practical entry strategy.
