Business and strengths

Letting the customer choose how much sugar, how strong the milk, and whether to add ginger or cardamom turned a drink no different from stall chai into an experience of choosing, and that is where Chaayos started. In the shop the order is recorded so that the same mix can be served straight away on the next visit.

On top of the outlets, it sells canned RTD chai (ready to drink) and tea bags, trying to build a shape that does not depend on café sales alone.

Recent developments

Operating revenue for FY2025 (the year ended March 2025) was ₹310.6 crore, up 25% from ₹248.6 crore the year before (total income including non-operating revenue was ₹329.7 crore). Total funding is about 94 million dollars, and the most recent round was a Series C in June 2022.

Points for Japanese companies

This is a working example of how to build customization into a beverage chain in India. If you sell Japanese tea drinks in India, the Japanese axis of unsweetened versus lightly sweetened will not carry over as it is, and what decides the outcome is whether the shop can hold a range of adjustment for sweetness and spice.
