Hotel operator Essentia Hotels & Resorts has opened a residence-style property, Essentia Residency, in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, marking its first entry into the state. Alongside deluxe rooms, it offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences (the three-bedroom sleeps up to six), targeting pilgrims, families, and long-stay guests. Laid out simply — who opened what, where, and for what purpose — this is a move to meet a temple city's lodging demand with a residence-style stay. The lodging demand of pilgrimage cities like Tirupati is an angle Japanese companies looking for outlets in amenities and food can target.
According to Hospitality Biz India, Essentia Residency is located in Ramachandra Nagar (Mangalam area) in Tirupati. It offers deluxe rooms and one-to-three-bedroom residences, with the three-bedroom option sleeping up to six. It has access to Tirupati International Airport, the railway station, and the APSRTC bus terminal, and is close to major temples and tourist spots. CEO Mohammed Parvez said, "Tirupati is a place of deep faith, but a meaningful trip also needs comfort where you can relax," explaining that the property was designed as a quiet place to return to after worship.
Tirupati, home to the Venkateswara Temple, is one of India's leading pilgrimage sites, where stays tend to be by family and last several days. A standard hotel room, however, can quickly feel cramped for a multi-generational family staying for several days. Essentia targeted this gap with one-to-three-bedroom residences, designing a lived-in style of stay complete with cooking facilities and everyday amenities, to accommodate longer pilgrimage visits.
The residence format, with separate bedrooms allowing a family to stay together, fits well with the extended stays typical of pilgrimages. The three-bedroom-for-up-to-six-people setup reflects the idea of fitting a three-generation pilgrimage trip or a family gathering into a single unit. By renting out a space closer to a home than a standard hotel room, the property offers a comfortable environment even for a multi-day stay, going after the multi-night demand distinctive to religious cities.
Tirupati is a pilgrimage site with strict vegetarianism, so guests' food is assumed to be vegetarian as well. As residence-style lodging increases, demand will continue for vegetarian ingredients, seasonings, and convenience foods served in-house or via delivery. In the field of vegetarian food close to shojin (Buddhist temple) cuisine, how a shojin brand can find a place in vegetarian fine dining is a discussion that offers clues for how to pitch Japanese ingredients and seasonings.
As far as Hospitality Biz India's report goes, besides Parvez's comments, chairman Xavier Furtado and managing director Savita Da Silva are named among the leadership. The group is said to operate five existing properties (in Indore, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur, and Udaipur) and to have plans to expand into Wayanad, Gujarat, Indore, and Bhopal in addition to Tirupati.
Multi-night demand in religious cities calls for a stable supply of vegetarian convenience foods, amenities, and daily necessities. In this same city of Tirupati, Betting on a Pilgrimage Location in a Temple City shows businesses stacking up around the flow of pilgrims. A residence-style lodging where guests spend several days can serve as a channel for supplying vegetarian ingredients, seasonings, and single-use amenities. There is room to work out how Japanese dried vegetables and instant prepared-food ingredients could fit within the constraints of vegetarian cuisine.
Lodging businesses moving down into regional religious cities, like Essentia, are unearthing lodging demand outside the metros. In first-time openings in regional cities, Haldiram's expansion into regional cities in UP shows the continuing trend of skipping major metros to capture mid-tier cities. An increase in lodging facilities simultaneously widens the local supply side for food and retail.
If residence-style properties in religious cities keep increasing, the first step is to prepare a list of ingredients, seasonings, and convenience foods that fit within vegetarian constraints, and propose to the lodging operator where they could fit into a multi-night guest menu. A good starting point is to track how Essentia Residency operates and its expansion plans into other pilgrimage and regional cities beyond Tirupati, while verifying, one by one, potential entry points for vegetarian-compatible supply.
