Shopee x Meta launch Facebook affiliate integration in Vietnam — purchases possible without leaving the post

2026.04.30

This article is based on what we could verify As of August 1, 2026 This article is based on public materials and news reports from Vietnam. Vietnam's tax system, regulations, and administrative divisions change frequently, so information here may have been updated since publication. Southeast Asia's largest e-commerce platform Shopee has partnered with Meta to roll out Facebook's "Affiliate Partnerships" program in earnest in Vietnam. Creators can embed Shopee product tags directly into Facebook posts and Reels, letting viewers complete a purchase without leaving the platform. A pilot of Collaborative Ads is also underway on Facebook Live, drawing attention as a new ad format for real-time live commerce. Shopee is positioned as the program's "first partner," rolling out simultaneously across eight markets: Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Brazil.

News details

According to reports from Vietnamnet, Branding in Asia, and the Bangkok Post, Meta announced the program on October 22, 2025, launching it simultaneously with Shopee across the eight markets. Creators can link their existing Shopee affiliate account to Facebook, search products by name or category, and tag them while checking commission rates, product details, and reviews on screen. Viewers move to the Shopee app or mobile web with a tap, and under the newer specification, some cases allow them to complete the purchase within Facebook itself. Thai creator Suparat reported a significant income increase within 10 days of starting to use the tagging feature. Affiliates are said to contribute about 30% of Shopee's overall sales, and Vietnam's standalone affiliate market has grown thirtyfold from 2022 to 2024, now reaching a scale of USD 700 million to 1 billion.

Background

In Vietnam, TikTok Shop has grown rapidly through short-form video and live commerce, and since 2024 a two-player structure with Shopee has become established. Meanwhile, TikTok Shop has raised its fees to as much as 14.5% starting in April 2026, and the squeeze on creator and seller earnings has become visible. The Shopee x Meta partnership offers creators a new revenue option in the sense of "diversifying away from concentration on TikTok." Meta's Vietnam head notes that "short-form video, Reels in particular, plays an important role at the awareness and consideration stages, with 70% of shoppers during Tet learning about products through video." As the center of the market shifts from feeds to Reels and live streaming, Shopee has moved to directly connect its e-commerce back end with Meta's creator economy.

Industry and local reaction

VietnamNet reports that "Facebook effectively gaining shopping functionality in Vietnam means a 're-dispersal' away from concentration on TikTok Shop."Branding in Asia assessed that "for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the connection between Reels and Shopee's product database makes it possible to build a D2C-like sales channel without having their own website."Bangkok Post points out that "creator-led social commerce is shifting ad budget allocation in Southeast Asia away from Google and YouTube toward the Meta-TikTok-Shopee coalition." Meanwhile, local creators also raise practical concerns, such as "commission transparency has improved, but out-of-stock products aren't hidden automatically in time, causing complaints" and "there are issues with the stability of Shopee's API."

What this means for Japanese companies and readers

For Japanese brands selling on Shopee in Vietnam (food, cosmetics, daily goods, apparel), the sales channel that uses Facebook creators as KOLs/KOCs becomes even more seamless. Previously there was the issue of "Facebook ads driving traffic to the brand's own site, with a high cart-abandonment rate," but being able to move directly to Shopee via a Reels tag should improve conversion rates. Furthermore, the combination of Shopee Live and Facebook Collaborative Ads could become a template for "cross-ASEAN live commerce advertising" that can be rolled out simultaneously in Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. Brands already established locally, such as Shiseido, Kao, Unicharm, Calbee, and Ajinomoto, are at a point where they should redesign how they jointly manage their Shopee Mall stores and Meta creator contracts. At the same time, Vietnam's amended advertising law, which took effect in January 2026, has strengthened disclosure requirements for KOLs' identities, so compliance work needs to proceed in parallel.

Ripple Effects on the Industry

This development reshapes the fight for leadership in ASEAN social commerce. While TikTok Shop rushes to monetize through fee hikes, Shopee x Meta is pushing "commission rates and transparency for creators," intensifying the tug-of-war over the creator talent pool. Lazada (Alibaba-affiliated) has not announced a similar Meta partnership, but is likely to follow suit. As Chinese platforms such as RedNote (Xiaohongshu) and Douyin step up their push into Southeast Asia, a coalition between a Western platform (Meta) and a Southeast Asian e-commerce player (Shopee) carries a certain geopolitical significance as well. On the advertiser side, being able to directly measure "ROAS at the Shopee product SKU level" within Meta's ad management tools will accelerate the shift from CPM/CPC-based budgeting to ROAS/CVR-based budgeting.

Conclusion

Shopee x Meta's full-scale rollout in Vietnam marks a turning point where Southeast Asian social commerce shifts from "TikTok dominance" to "multiple platforms running in parallel." It is well worth Japanese brands' while to build KOL/KOC marketing plans that integrate the three layers of Shopee Mall, Facebook Reels, and Live into their promotional plans for the second half of 2026. TikTok Shop's fee hikes and KOL regulation under the amended advertising law— alongside these, this is a phase for revisiting platforms, compliance, and creator contracts together as one.
