The World Seafood Congress is an international seafood conference held every two years by the International Association of Fish Inspectors (IAFI). It took place in Chennai in February 2026, the first time it had been held in India.

The program was built around the conference itself, combined with an exhibition (Trade Fair), B2B meetings, workshops, and technical visits. People from government, research, and industry involved in seafood inspection and quality control gather, and the regulations and inspection practices of each country are discussed. It has moved among seafood-producing countries in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
India is a major producer and exporter of seafood, and for Japan it is a sourcing country centered on shrimp. For the 2026 edition, Indian government fisheries bodies joined as co-host and supporters.
For companies on the buying side, it is a chance to learn how India's seafood inspection system and export controls work in practice. Which certifications an export processing plant holds, and what inspections it carries out for which destination countries, feed directly into the terms of a deal.
The next edition is expected in 2028 on the two-year cycle, but the location has not been announced. If your purpose is to meet people in India's seafood industry, Seafood Expo Bharat, run by MPEDA, is closer to a place for buyer meetings.
