Printed circuit board major Meiko broke ground on June 12, 2026 in northern Vietnam's Phu Tho Province at the Yen Quang Industrial Park, on an electronic circuit manufacturing plant with an investment of $500 million (approximately 80 billion yen). The new plant, "Meiko Yen Quang," will handle high-value-added boards for AI and aerospace applications and will be Meiko's sixth base in Vietnam. At full operation it will generate roughly about 2,000 local jobs.
The plant that broke ground is an electronic circuit manufacturing base within the Yen Quang Industrial Park, and its products will supply AI-related equipment and aerospace applications. Meiko has already operated five sites in Vietnam since entering in 2007, and this marks its sixth. Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung attended the ceremony and called for advancing the construction schedule, complying with environmental regulations, and raising the ratio of procurement from local suppliers.
Phu Tho Province is an inland province near Hanoi, part of the northern FDI corridor where electronics and materials investment from Samsung and POSCO-affiliated companies is concentrated. At full operation, annual sales are expected to reach about $530 million (approximately 84.8 billion yen), a production scale slightly exceeding the investment amount. Since the boards are incorporated into the front-end processes of EVs, data centers, and semiconductor mounting, the location appears aimed at a procurement network that is self-contained within the northern electronics cluster.
The ramp-up of mass production of AI- and aerospace-grade boards in the north means an increase in sourcing options for Japanese set makers procuring boards for automotive, industrial equipment, and telecommunications applications. It is also worth noting that the Deputy Prime Minister specifically called for raising the local procurement ratio. In peripheral processes such as resins, chemical solutions, mounting materials, and inspection equipment, there is room to break into the local supply chain. Phu Tho Province is within driving distance of Hanoi, making it easy to combine with existing northern bases for rotating oversight.
